Downtown Davison is officially launching a new Social District on June 3 to allow outdoor drinking within designated boundaries.
We first spotted the news via a Facebook post from The Agitated Grape, a local spot that seems to have scooped the official city channels on this announcement.
The concept is simple enough: you buy a alcoholic beverage in an approved district cup from a participating business and wander the streets while shopping or attending events.
Naturally, this is not an invitation to get completely hammered and ruin the privilege for everyone else.
You cannot bring your drinks into non-participating businesses, and you must stay strictly within the designated boundaries.
The Logistics of Davison’s New Drinking Zone
Over the next few weeks, the city will install official signage while local businesses finalize their state licensing.
I suspect this will significantly boost foot traffic during the summer months, which local retailers always appreciate.
This move follows the recent launch of the new City of Davison trolley service.
Between the trolley and outdoor alcohol, Davison is clearly trying to build a more active downtown footprint.
We will keep an eye on how the June 3 launch goes and whether other area businesses jump on the bandwagon.
