Disney’s Grand Vision for America 250
The Walt Disney Company has officially unveiled its ambitious “Disney Celebrates America” lineup, a company-wide initiative designed to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary.
This extensive celebration promises a blend of live events, immersive park experiences, and a truly unprecedented broadcast marathon, showcasing Disney’s legacy in shaping the American story.
A 24-Hour Broadcast Spanning 50 States
Beginning Friday, July 3, and continuing through Saturday, July 4, viewers can expect an unparalleled 24-hour multiplatform broadcast.
Led by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir, this expansive event will traverse all 50 states, exploring the people, places, and defining moments of America’s 250-year history.
We believe this cross-platform approach across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, National Geographic, FX, Freeform, ABC News Live, ESPN, and ABC Owned Television Stations and affiliates is a logistical marvel.
The broadcast will feature a star-studded lineup of ABC News talent, including anchor Diane Sawyer, “Good Morning America” co-anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, “Nightline” co-anchors Juju Chang and Byron Pitts, “20/20” co-anchor Deborah Roberts, and “Prime” and “WNT Sunday” anchor Linsey Davis.
Even “The View” co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines are set to contribute, ensuring comprehensive coverage from a wide array of perspectives.
Primetime Special: “The Pursuit of Happiness”
Several days prior, on Monday, June 29, a two-hour primetime special titled “Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness” will debut.
This special, airing from 8-10 p.m. ET/PT across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, National Geographic, and ABC News Live, will highlight America’s greatest stories, triumphs, and traditions.
“20/20” anchor Deborah Roberts will host from Walt Disney World, while ABC News national correspondent Will Reeve reports from Disneyland Resort, offering a coast-to-coast perspective on American “firsts.”
Parks Transform for the Anniversary
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California are also gearing up for the milestone with unique offerings.
The highly anticipated “Soarin’ Across America” is now open at EPCOT and will debut on July 2 at Disney California Adventure Park.
This reimagined flight experience promises a breathtaking journey across the United States, showcasing natural beauty and iconic cityscapes like the New England coastline, Mount Rushmore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Grand Canyon West.
We appreciate the attention to detail, with National Geographic photography and trivia integrated into the queue for “The Soarin’ Challenge Across America” at EPCOT.
Beyond the new attraction, guests can expect patriotic lighting on Spaceship Earth, special performances, themed decor, and limited-time merchandise, food, and beverage options leading up to July 4.
Disney Parks will extend the celebration with community events and offerings specifically honoring veterans and military families, a gesture we find particularly fitting for such an occasion.
Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash
The celebration extends beyond the parks with “Disney Celebrates America: Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash.”
This live event in Nashville will feature must-see performances by iconic artists and musical acts across multiple genres.
In collaboration with the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp and ITV America Nashville, it will also host one of the largest fireworks and drone shows in the United States, set to a live score performed by the GRAMMY® Award-winning Nashville Symphony.
National Geographic Unveils “Seven Natural Wonders”
As part of the nationwide tribute, National Geographic and ABC News are collaborating to unveil a new list, “Seven Natural Wonders of America.”
This list highlights awe-inspiring locations across the country, with the Hawaii volcanoes already revealed on “Good Morning America” as the first wonder.
The remaining six sites will be unveiled on the Fourth of July during the broadcast, featuring on-the-ground reporting from ABC News talent.
ESPN’s Deep Dive into American Sports Culture
ESPN will contribute to the celebration with a special two-hour edition of its flagship news and information program, SportsCenter, airing live on ABC on July 4 from 2-4 p.m. PT/5-7 p.m. ET.
Co-hosted by Kevin Negandhi and Christine Williamson, this program will celebrate the people, moments, and stories that have shaped American sports culture.
ESPN.com will also feature a five-day series titled “AMERICA 250 Road Trips: A journey though the mystery and majesty of sports,” with ESPN reporters exploring how sports shaped the country’s identity.
A Meaningful Reflection
Ken Potrock, President of Major Events Integration for The Walt Disney Co., stated, “As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, ‘Disney Celebrates America’ is our way of honoring this historic milestone by celebrating the people, places, and shared moments that define who we are.”
He added, “Through immersive and creative park experiences and unprecedented broadcast moments, Disney invites everyone to come together and celebrate America in a truly meaningful way by reflecting on where we’ve been and imagining the extraordinary future we can create together.”
We anticipate this extensive initiative will provide a truly unique and memorable way for Americans to engage with their history and look towards the future.
