Visakhapatnam, October 15, 2025: Google has officially inaugurated its first and largest Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in India, situated in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The $15 billion investment—the tech giant’s biggest in India—signals a historic leap for India’s digital ecosystem, aiming to accelerate AI innovation, boost sustainable infrastructure, and fuel massive job creation across the nation.
A Boost to India’s AI Mission
The AI Hub forms part of India’s broader “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, aligning with the government’s push to democratize artificial intelligence and expand the country’s digital economy. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the project as a “transformative step” that would anchor India’s position in global AI leadership. He emphasized that Google’s AI infrastructure—powered by renewable energy and next-generation data technologies—will help train a new generation of Indian AI engineers.
Largest AI Campus Outside the US
Spanning a gigawatt-scale data center campus, the facility in Vizag will be Google’s largest AI hub outside the United States. It will host advanced compute clusters, including Google’s proprietary Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), designed for large-scale AI workloads. According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, the campus “represents a landmark investment in India’s digital future,” integrating AI with renewable energy sources to deliver sustainable growth.

Partnerships Driving Growth
Google has partnered with AdaniConneX and Airtel to build and operate the cutting-edge data center complex. Airtel will develop an extensive intra- and inter-city fiber network along with a new subsea cable landing station in Visakhapatnam, enhancing India’s global internet connectivity. AdaniConneX, a joint venture between Adani Enterprises and EdgeConneX, will focus on building the green data infrastructure powered by clean energy and innovative storage systems.
Sustainability and Economic Impact
A key component of the hub’s development is sustainability. The facility will be powered primarily through renewable energy sources, with new transmission lines and clean power projects being built to support its operations. The venture is projected to generate over 180,000 direct and indirect jobs, catalyzing local employment and reskilling programs in data science, cloud operations, and AI development.
Strategic Collaboration and Vision
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the initiative, describing it as a “powerful force in democratizing technology” and an embodiment of India’s AI for All mission. Google CEO Sundar Pichai added that the project “creates substantial economic and societal opportunities” while strengthening U.S.–India technological collaboration. The hub’s advanced AI capabilities are expected to support applications in agriculture, healthcare, and smart city development across India.

As the first phase of construction begins in 2026, the Visakhapatnam AI Hub is positioned to become a cornerstone of India’s AI and cloud ecosystem.
