New Delhi — Indian Railways has unveiled the first look of its highly anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, promising to revolutionize overnight train travel across the country with premium amenities and modern features.

Premium Features Revealed

At the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 in New Delhi, Kinet Railway Solutions—a collaboration between India and Russia—showcased the interior design of the First Class coach. The cabins are designed to offer a luxurious, private travel experience with:

  • Four comfortable sleeping berths
  • Individual reading lights
  • Water bottle holders
  • Charging points
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Premium seating arrangements

Technical Specifications

The new sleeper trains will operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, with a maximum capability of 180 km/h. Each train will consist of 16 coaches, including AC First Class, AC 2 Tier, and AC 3 Tier compartments, with a total passenger capacity of approximately 1,128 travelers.

Safety has been prioritized with the inclusion of crash buffers, deformation tubes, and fire-resistant walls between coaches.

Pricing and Availability

Tickets are expected to be priced 10-15% higher than the current Rajdhani Express fares. Kinet Railway Solutions will manufacture and maintain 120 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, totaling 1,920 coaches.

Launch Timeline

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that two sleeper trains will be launched simultaneously, with the rollout scheduled only after the second train completes its trial runs and receives clearance from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO).

The introduction of these sleeper trains marks a significant upgrade to India’s railway infrastructure, combining the speed and comfort of the existing Vande Bharat Express with facilities designed specifically for long-distance overnight journeys.
