The Apple Watch Ultra 4 keeps the same $799 price and the same rugged titanium shape, but adds meaningful battery and sensor gains.
Normal-use runtime climbs to 50 hours, workout tracking stretches to 45 hours in the longest mode, and the heart rate hardware is new.
Here is every confirmed specification, what separates it from the Ultra 3, and who actually needs the rugged model.

Battery Life: Five Numbers, Not One

Most coverage quotes a single battery figure for the Ultra 4. Apple publishes five, and the differences matter if you train seriously.
- 50 hours of normal use, up from 42 on the Ultra 3
- 84 hours in Low Power Mode, up from 72
- 18 hours of standard outdoor workout tracking
- 25 hours in Extended Workout mode
- 45 hours in Max Extended Workout mode, which Apple pitches at 100-mile races
The 18-hour figure is the one that changes behavior. The Ultra 3 capped standard GPS workouts at 14 hours.
That gap matters for a full Ironman. On the older watch you needed Low Power Mode to finish; on this one you do not.
Fast charging also improved. Fifteen minutes on the charger returns up to 18 hours of normal use.
For a watch you might wear across a two-day trip, a short charge at a rest stop now covers the rest of the route.
Battery health still degrades with cycles over time, the same way iPhone battery cycles accumulate with daily charging.
Diving, Depth Rating and Water Resistance

Water resistance is rated to 100m, which covers swimming, snorkeling and high-speed water sports.
The more specific certification is EN13319, the European standard for diving accessories. It covers recreational scuba to 40m.
Apple quotes depth accuracy of plus or minus one meter, which makes the depth gauge a usable dive instrument rather than a novelty.
A water temperature sensor and altimeter sit alongside the depth gauge, so the watch reads conditions above and below the surface.
Snorkeling, swimming and high-speed water sports are all covered by the 100m rating on its own, without the dive certification.
Dust resistance is IP6X, and the operating range runs from minus 20 to 55 degrees Celsius while worn.
This is the single clearest reason to choose the Ultra over the Apple Watch Series 12, which is rated 50m swimproof only.
Health Sensing System and Heart Rate Accuracy

The Ultra 4 shares the new Health Sensing System with the Series 12. Apple claims the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable.
Background heart rate is measured every five seconds all day, replacing the periodic sampling used on earlier models.
Heart rate variability is measured up to 24 times more frequently, split into a recovery variant and an overall trend variant.
Larger and more efficient green LEDs are the hardware change that makes the higher sampling rate practical without wrecking battery life.
Apple also claims the most accurate step tracking of any smartwatch, from a redesigned pedometer using machine learning.
GPS is unchanged in hardware terms but Apple describes it as the most accurate on-device GPS in a sports watch.
Kaiann Drance, Apple vice president of Worldwide Apple Watch Product Marketing, called it Apple’s most rugged and capable Apple Watch.
Fall Detection, Emergency SOS and the ECG app all carry over from previous Ultra models unchanged.
Overnight and daytime vitals are both compared against your own baseline rather than population averages, as detailed in Apple’s health update.
Readiness Scores and Audio Intelligence on the Wrist

Readiness is the flagship software feature riding on the new sensors. It produces one score each day from 0 to 10.
It weighs recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score, then returns one of four recommendations.
- Recover: recent load has not been paid off yet
- Pace Yourself: train, but keep something in reserve
- Ready: a normal training day is fine
- Go For It: clear to push hard
Audio Intelligence also arrives here. Sound Recognition flags sirens, alarms, doorbells and a baby crying, and Shazam identifies music on the watch.
Live Rewind shows the previous 15 seconds of conversation as text after a double-press of the Digital Crown.
Siri Recap takes background notes and writes a title with key points. Both features arrive in beta in late 2026, not at launch.
Apple processes this audio in a dedicated hardware compartment called Secure Exclave, and says no audio recordings are created or stored.
Cases, Bands and the Hermes Collection

The case is 3D-printed grade 5 titanium in natural or black, using titanium Apple says is 100 percent recycled.
Overall recycled content reaches 45 percent, the highest of the three products Apple launched at this event.
The band lineup gets new colors across all three rugged straps rather than a redesign.
- Trail Loop: dark umber, sand, burgundy
- Alpine Loop: desert, dark olive, burgundy
- Ocean Band: translucent gray, translucent kelp, translucent black
The Ocean Band uses a new translucent silicone. It is the strap intended for diving and high-speed water use.
Apple Watch Hermes Ultra 4 is offered in natural titanium with a Grand H titanium band.
That band carries a built-in extension mechanism so it can be adjusted to fit over a wet suit.
Ultra 4 vs Ultra 3: What Changed

Physically these two watches are the same object. Dimensions, display, brightness, water resistance and storage all carry over.
| Area | Ultra 3 | Ultra 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Normal use battery | 42 hours | 50 hours |
| Low Power Mode | 72 hours | 84 hours |
| Outdoor workout | 14 hours | 18 hours |
| Heart rate sampling | Periodic | Every five seconds |
| HRV frequency | Baseline | Up to 24 times more often |
| Readiness score | No | Yes |
| Audio Intelligence | No | Yes |
| Case and display | Unchanged | Unchanged |
| Water rating | 100m, 40m scuba | 100m, 40m scuba |
| Storage | 64GB | 64GB |
| Price | $799 | $799 |
The S11 chip is shared with the Series 12, so the two watches perform identically. Nothing separates them on raw speed.
Ultra 3 owners have a thin case for upgrading unless the longer GPS workout window solves a real problem for them.
Anyone on the original Ultra or a Series watch is looking at a far larger jump in both battery and sensing.
Who Should Buy the Apple Watch Ultra 4

The Ultra 4 costs twice what the Series 12 costs. It solves specific problems rather than being a general upgrade.
- Buy it if: you dive, since only this model is certified to 40m
- Buy it if: you race beyond 14 hours and want full GPS tracking throughout
- Buy it if: you go off-grid and want satellite messaging and SOS
- Buy it if: you want to charge twice a week rather than nightly
- Skip it if: you want a light watch, since 63 grams of titanium is substantial
For everyday health tracking the cheaper model shares the same sensors, chip and software, which undercuts the case for spending more.
Launch markets include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, the UAE, the UK and the US, plus more than 50 other regions.
Apple also offers a shorter lease term at $44.99 a month over 12 months for buyers who upgrade annually.
